La Locanda for the Environment
The Wayfarer's Inn is located within the Natural Park and is a part of the Heritage of Agriculture and Forestry of the Tuscany Region.
The Nature Park of Monti Rognosi is an important element of the project The Parks of the Tiber Valley. This project, sponsored by the Mountain Union of the Communities of Tiber Valley, provides "a system" of all protected areas of historical. cultural, archaeological, environmental and landscape resources of the area.
La Locanda del Viandante involves a system of state-owned settlement structures for tourist accommodation to promove the Nature Park of Monti Rognosi. Specifically, the cottage Cerreto houses a B & B, the property in Valle di Mezzo offers Holiday Houses and Apartments, while in Valle di Sopra we will open a Forestiera (rooms and apartments) with group accommodation facilities and common areas for recreational and educational activities (opening on 2015).
We aim to create facilities where we can experiment with models of the sustainable tourism development .
First of all, by repurposing only the existing historical buildings and adopting measures that safeguard the special features of Tuscan farmhouses.
All renovations were made using green building architectural techniques focusing on seismic strengthening of buildings, energy efficiency, reuse of stormwater and proper disposal of waste through innovative techniques that do not produce adverse effects on nearby surface waters and aquifers.
The renovation of buildings has always supported the recovery of the traditional agricultural landscape.
Another ambitious goal we have set ourselves is to reach, within a few years, zero emissions of CO2. For this reason, all the heating and hot water production are made through forest biomass boilers and / or solar thermal and photovoltaic systems. We are designing small photovoltaic systems and small wind turbines in our structures.
Both the Rooms and the Apartments work to reduce and correctly dispose the waste products with particular attention to organic ones that are composted.
All products used in the breakfast for the guests aim to exploit the short market chain and the excellence of the Tiber Valley and the neighboring territories.
